Pacific Time to Central Time

Pacific Time is normally 2 hours behind Central Time. For example, 9 AM Pacific Time is 11 AM Central Time. Day to day, PT to CT usually follows that same two-hour gap.

PT means Pacific Time. CT means Central Time. In winter those clocks often show PST and CST; in summer they show PDT and CDT. If a meeting invite only says “Pacific” or “Central,” convert with a real date so standard or daylight time is chosen for you.

What Is the Time Difference Between PST and CST?

PST is UTC−8. CST is UTC−6. CST is two hours ahead of PST; PST is two hours behind CST. When both labels mean standard time, that difference stays the same all year.

  • PST = UTC−8
  • CST = UTC−6
  • CST = PST + 2 hours
  • PST = CST − 2 hours

Example: 9 AM PST is 11 AM CST. 5 PM PST is 7 PM CST. Subtract two hours to go from CST back to PST.

Most of the US Pacific and Central regions change clocks in the same weeks of spring and fall. So everyday Pacific Time to Central Time usually stays two hours apart in winter and in summer. What changes is the name on the clock: PST/CST in standard time, PDT/CDT in daylight time.

Check with a real date: on a January workday, 9 AM PST is 11 AM CST. On a July workday, 9 AM PDT is 11 AM CDT — still two hours, different names. A PST to CST conversion keeps standard time even in July. Pacific Time to Central Time uses the date you enter and shows PDT or CDT when that region is on daylight time.

Use Pacific Time to Central Time for local clocks on a given day. Stay with PST to CST when the schedule truly means standard time on both sides.
